Joe Biden’s White House doctor has confirmed that the 80-year-old had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest in a surgery last month, less than one year after Biden appeared to inform a crowd of reporters that he had “cancer.”
According to a statement from Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the White House doctor and Biden’s longtime personal physician, “all cancerous tissue was successfully removed” during surgery on February 16.
The doctor reports that the area where the cancer was removed has “healed nicely” and confirmed that Biden will receive “regular skin screenings as part of his routine health plan,” according to the Associated Press.
Despite the cancer, O’Connor described Biden as “healthy, vigorous,” and “fit” for an 80-year-old in a recent medical synopsis.
Last year, Biden seemed to inform an audience that he has cancer. The White House’s allies in the media soon insisted that Biden did not presently have cancer, but had “several localized non-melanoma skin cancers” surgically removed from his body before he ran for president.
O’Connor acknowledged these surgeries, and suggested the cancers developed due to the large amount of time Biden spent in the sun as a youth.
At the time, Biden delivered a rambling story about an “oil slick” that would form on car windshields due to local pollution, and claimed it was the reason he “and so damn many other people have cancer.”

“That’s why I – and so damn many other people I grew up with – have cancer,” Biden explained to the crowd, “and why cancer, for the longest time, Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the nation.”
Stressing that the nation’s chief executive was medically sound, the White House soon revealed that rather than cancer, Biden was actually suffering from COVID-19.
His bout with the China-originated disease kept him out of the national spotlight for weeks after he admitted to having “cancer.”
At various times throughout his presidency, Biden has promised his administration will cure cancer. Most recently, the 80-year-old has suggested that “gene therapy” and vaccines will prevent the disease.
