Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Pelosi, has pled not guilty to DUI charges he received after being involved in a car crash in May.
Amanda Bevins, a lawyer for Pelosi, whose wife is currently on a tour around Asia, appeared in a Napa County court on Wednesday, where she pled not guilty on two misdemeanor charges on behalf of her client. Those charges, DUI causing injury and driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08% causing injury, could result in up to 5 years of probation for the Speaker’s husband.
According to District Attorney Allison Haley’s office, if found guilty, Pelosi could face a minimum of 5 days in jail along with the probation, fines, fees, a court-ordered “drinking driver class,” and even be forced to install an ignition interlock device on his car.
Pelosi’s 2021 Porsche, and a 2014 Jeep belonging to a driver known only as John Doe, collided at around 10:17 PM on May 28, close to the intersection of State Route 29 and Oakville Cross Road, as Valiant News previously reported. Pelosi was arrested, and bailed out the next morning for $5,000.
He was discovered by officers still at the seat of his car, and allegedly handed over his driver’s licence and a card for the 11-99 Foundation when he was asked for his identification. Said charity supporters officers of the California Highway Patrol, and also provides scholarships for their children.
Previously withheld details of Pelosi’s alleged condition and that of the other driver were revealed in court documents. In the complaint, Pelosi’s eyes were allegedly “red/watery,” and was “unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an alcohol beverage emanating from his breath.”
While both drivers refused medical treatment at the scene, John Doe told prosecutors on June 2 that he had started feeling pain in his upper right arm, neck, and right shoulder the day following the crash, further complaining that he found it difficult to lift things with the injured arm, along with suffering headaches.
Speaker Pelosi, who has yet to comment on her husband’s DUI charges, has also come under fire for conservatives who have questioned his stock market maneuvers.
Valiant News reported last week that Former Dallas Federal Reserve Chair Richard Fischer alleged that the House Speaker “appears to have taken advantage of inside information” in light of her husband’s lucrative stock trades.
“I’m sorry to see that Paul Pelosi and Nancy Pelosi and others appear, it’s all appearance now we don’t know the facts, appear to have taken advantage of inside information,” Fischer argued, saying that “something needs to be done.”
