A new poll reveals that nearly two thirds of voters want Joe Biden to be a one term president and opt against seeking a second term in 2024.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris poll, conducted late last month, reveals that nearly two thirds of Americans want Biden to be a one term president. 71% of respondents said they do not want Biden to seek a second term, compared to only 29% who said he should run for reelection.
When those who said Biden should not seek reelection were asked to explain their answer, 45% said “he’s a bad president,” 30% said “he’s too old,” and 26% said “it’s time for a change.”
Most respondents said that they do not believe Biden is mentally fit to hold the office. 60% said they “have doubts about his fitness,” while 40% said “he is mentally fit.” Almost one third of Democrats join the majority in questioning Biden’s fitness. Similarly, 64% of respondents say Biden “is showing he is too old to be president,” while only 36% say he’s “showing he is fit to be president.”
The poll may spell other problems for the deeply unpopular Biden administration, as it reveals that 64% of Americans believe they are financially “getting worse” under Biden, which the pollsters reveal is the highest percentage they’ve recorded.

At the same time, Democrats seem unsure who to pick should Biden choose not to seek reelection. 25% would vote for Kamala Harris, 15% Hillary Clinton, 12% Bernie Sanders, 6% Pete Buttigieg, and 6% Elizabeth Warren.
This latest poll follows similar polling that saw Biden’s approval ratings underwater in 48 out of 50 states, with the president only seeing positive approval ratings in Vermont and Hawaii.
Even in those states, Biden failed to crack 50% approval, with 46% of Vermont voters and 45% of Hawaii voters supporting the 46th president’s job performance.
Still, Biden and his administration have repeatedly stressed that the United States is in the midst of a “transition” to a green economy, and more recently, Biden blamed “Russia, Russia, Russia” for the economic crises faced by most Americans.
Many pundits expect Republicans to make significant gains in Congress during the 2022 midterm elections. If the predictions come to fruition, it may place additional pressure on Biden to step aside and allow another Democrat to run for the White House in 2024.
