Rep. Paul Gosar, the popular Republican from Arizona, has called for a 10 year moratorium on foreign aid even as billions are to Ukraine.
On Monday, the Biden administration announced that another $4.5 billion of taxpayer’s money has been earmarked for foreign aid sent to Ukraine, in order to help the government maintain “essential functions” during the Russian invasion.
When including the amount spent on arms and other tangible resources, Ukraine will have received over $18 billion from the US this year alone.
Following the news, Gosar, one of the most America First members of Congress, tweeted that America needs a “Total Foreign Aid Moratorium,” with the policy going into place for at least 10 years.
“The solutions to many of our problems are actually quite simple,” Gosar said. “Historic flood of immigration? Close the border. Other countries are shamelessly looting our own? Turn off the money spigot.”

It's time for a Total Foreign Aid Moratorium. 10 years minimum sounds good to me. https://t.co/Ue4xupLBbo

“Millions of illegals are flooding across the border bringing drugs, disease, & crime. Inflation, food costs, & gas prices are record high. Families are hurting,” Gosar tweeted on Wednesday.
“We simply can’t afford to be sending tens of billions of dollars overseas anymore. We need a Foreign Aid Moratorium.”

Foreign aid spending in 2021 was budgeted at $38 billion, with 25% of the budget as of February 2022 reports having gone to just 10 countries, including Ethiopia, Jordan, and Afghanistan.
In contrast, the President’s Fiscal Year Budget Request for the State Department and the US Agency for International Development, is $60.4 billion, including $29.4 billion for USAID accounts, amounting to a 6% increase from 2022.
According to the breakdown provided by the USAID, the State Department wants to use $2.6 billion to engage in “integrating gender equality” through “holistic programming” that seeks to elevate not only women and girls across the world, but also “individuals of other gender identities.”
The breakdown also includes a section that would expand “voluntary family planning and reproductive health planning” across the globe. According to the website of the Department of Health and Human Services, “reproductive health care” as a term specifically includes “access to birth control and safe and legal abortion care.”
