Joe Biden has said that the treatment of Palestinians by Israelis is very similar to the “attitude” of Britain towards Irish Catholics in the last few hundred years.
Speaking to an audience in East Jersualem as part of his tour around the region, Biden discussed how Palestinians were being treated by Israelis today, and directly compared what they were experiencing to his Irish Catholic family in Britain in the past.
“My background, and the background of my family is Irish American,” Biden said. “And uh, we uh, have a uh, long history of uh, not fundamentally unlike the Palestinian people, with uh Great Britain, and their attitude towards Irish Catholics over the years, for 400 years.”

Biden has discussed his Irish heritage at length in the past, including relating it to current politics today, and his relationship with Britain. In 2020, when a reporter from the BBC asked him a question, he was responded with “The BBC? I’m Irish!”

In May, Biden claimed that his wife, Dr Jill, has an issue with him being of Irish descent, and said that she would “get mad” at him whenever he brings it up, but quickly clarified that he was “only joking” and “teasing.”

Before visiting Ireland in 2016, then-Vice President Biden wrote a letter where he said that while Northeast Pennsylvania will be “written on [his] heart… Ireland will be written on [his soul].” This is despite the fact that Biden is only 5/8 Irish.
During his tour of the region, a confused Biden on Thursday appeared to shake the hand of an invisible person while on stage. He was then steered in the direction of nearby chairs, which he began to point in the direction of as he walked towards them.
Valiant News has contacted the British government regarding Biden’s Friday comments, although there was no response before the time of publication. This article will be updated if any response is forthcoming.
