A journalist quizzed Rep. Matt Gaetz on his thoughts regarding the aesthetic and physical attributes of women who attend abortion rallies after he joked that they tend to be physically unattractive, and the popular Republican was short and brutally honest in his responses.
A reporter asked Gaetz is it was “safe to say” that he’s suggesting “women at these abortion rallies are ugly and overweight.”
“Yes,” Gaetz replied. When asked for his message to those offended by his remarks, he curtly said “Be offended.”
Reporter: Is it safe to say that, based off your comments, you're suggesting that these women at these abortion rallies are ugly and overweight?
Gaetz: Yes.
Reporter: What do you say to people who think those comments are offensive?
Gaetz: Be offended.

The encounter came after Gaetz joked that the women who most fervently protest for the right to abort an unborn child are often unattractive.
“Why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions?” Gaetz joked. “Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb.”
He added that “these people are odious on the inside and out. They’re like 5’2, 350 pounds and they’re like ‘give me my abortions or I’ll get up and march and protest’ and I’m thinking: ‘March? You look like you got ankles weaker than the legal reasoning behind Roe vs Wade.'”
“A few of them need to get up and march,” joked Gaetz. “They need to get up and march for like an hour a day, swing those arms, get the blood pumping, maybe mix in a salad.”

One such activist apparently began a Twitter interaction with Gaetz, resulting in the Republican posting an image that shows the apparently-teenage female is severely overweight.
Newsweek reported that it was an instance of “despicable” “body shaming” of a left wing teenage activist who happens to be visibly overweight.

Gaetz, a leading member of the pro-Trump wing of the Republican Party, has hinted at sweeping reforms under a potential Republican Congress should the party retake the House this November.
Alongside Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Gaetz supports “reparations” and an offer of reinstatement for former members of the Armed Forces who were ejected due to their refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine, proposed stripping security clearance from members of the intelligence community who signed a letter claiming Hunter Biden’s laptop was fake, and promised a push to “halt” defense spending for Ukraine.
