The average price of a gallon of gas nationwide exceeded $5 on Thursday, according to a report by ABC News.

Today the national average gas price clocks in at $4.986 per gallon according to AAA’s gas price tracker, meaning the nation is experiencing $5 per gallon gasoline for the first time since 2008, even as the Biden administration continues to release oil from the country’s strategic surplus.

Yesterday, ABC reported that “In all 50 states, the average price of a gallon of gas stood above $4.40,” but the price was pushed up higher by certain Democrat-controlled states known for high gas prices.

“In California, the state with the highest gas prices, drivers paid an eye-popping average of $6.40 per gallon,” ABC reported.

The price increase comes just weeks after Joe Biden seemed to signal his approval of rising fuel costs, calling it part of an “incredible transition” to green energy away from fossil fuels during a meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister.

“[When] it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over,” Biden said during a press conference in Japan  after meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

During the meeting, Biden also claimed that his energy policies keeping the record high gas prices “from getting worse,” but his efforts apparently failed to prevent the highest gas prices seen in history.

When 45th President Donald Trump was in office, the price of gas was around $2.00.

While many Americans continue to feel worsening pain at the gas pump,  some Democrat politicians and corporate media pundits dismiss the rising fuel costs.

“Um, is part of the problem with coverage of the economy that people like White House aides, and yes TV anchors, don’t feel the pinch as much as the average American?” CNN host Brian Stelter asked Senior Biden Advisor Gene Sperling earlier this week. “And let me put that in a personal way – do you feel the pinch, do you feel the pain?”

“You know, I-I feel the, I feel the pain for, for so many families in our lives,” Sperling said. The CNN host then interjected, “Okay, but for you – do you feel? I mean, 72 dollars for gas this morning. Do you feel it? Do you pay it?”

Sperling replied, “Look, I, you know, we see it, we see, you know, gallon of milk go to five dollars, everybody understands that that is a hit. I think that I’m not gonna try to say I you know, feel that pain personally as much as so many families who make 50 or 60 thousand.”

Democrat U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow told Congress that spiraling gas prices “didn’t matter” to her because she’s just purchased a new electric car, which many Americans are unable to afford, particularly when considering how the price for a crucial metal used in batteries for electric vehicles has increased by over 750% since January of 2021 — making electric vehicles even more costly.

Stabenow told Congress that “after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle,” she finally got her car and “drove it from Michigan to [Washington DC] this last weekend,” adding that as she drove by every single gas station on the route, it “didn’t matter how high” prices were.
