Speaking to supporters at a rally held last night in Selma, North Carolina, 45th President Donald Trump outlined a vision for what the Republican Party will do, under his political leadership, should they retake Congress this November.
Trump promised that, under his leadership, the Republican Party will finally champion the hundreds of men arrested following the events of January 6. Many have been in pretrial detention for more than a year, with trial dates that continue moving. Some are being held in solitary confinement. Many have no criminal history, and a large number are veterans.
“And we, while we’re at it, will demand justice for the January 6th prisoners and full protection of their civil rights,” said Trump. He compared the treatment of January 6 prisoners to the treatment “received by antifa and Black Lives Matter, who murdered people throughout our country.”
Then, Trump appeared to deviate from the speech on his teleprompters and discussed the recent not guilty verdict for Matthew Martin, a former federal contractor who claimed he only entered the U.S. Capitol because police waved him into the building.

“As you probably have heard, one of the first January 6 trials ended,” said Trump “There was exoneration because they effectively proved that he got waved into the Capitol by the police.”
Judge Trevor N. McFadden ruled in Martin’s favor, saying he “found it plausible” that Martin believed “police had let him in and thus had not knowingly gone into the building improperly,” according to the New York Times.
Trump then reminded his supporters that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser were charged with security for the Capitol, and that they refused an offer for additional personnel in the days immediately before January 6.
“Nancy Pelosi was in charge of the Capitol, you know that, right? And the mayor of DC,” Trump said, “They were in charge of all security in the Capitol.”
“Remember also that they were offered, three days before, January 3, 10,000 soldiers, National Guard, to defend the Capitol, they turned it down.”
Trump then likened the prosecution of January 6 prisoners to the recent acquittals and mistrials of the four men formerly charged with a plot to kidnap Democrat Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
It was eventually proven that 12 FBI agents provided support and encouragement in the alleged kidnapping plot, compared to the four men accused of planning it.
“It sounded very strange to a lot of people,” said Trump. “Two were just found not guilty and two others ended in a hung jury, so there’s something going on there.”
Back to his speech, Trump continued, “The radical Democrat Party will do anything to stop our movement, no matter how illegal, immoral, or insane.”
