Joe Biden’s Supreme Court pick, Ketanji Brown Jackson, is the same judge who sentenced “Pizzagate” shooter, Edgar Maddison Welch, to 4 years in prison for firing an AR-15 inside the D.C. pizza restaurant known as Comet Ping Pong in December of 2016.

At the time, Welch claimed that he had driven to the pizzeria from Salisbury, N.C., in order to investigate popular online concerns of child sex abuse and slavery being held in the restaurant.

No children had been found by Welch in the restaurant, leading him to surrender to the police. Welch claimed “that he had read online that the Comet restaurant was harboring child sex slaves and that he wanted to see for himself if they were there,” according to reports.

Judge Jackson, who presided over the Pizzagate shooter’s sentencing in 2017, called “the extent of the recklessness” of Welch’s actions “breathtaking” as she sentenced him to prison. She added that she had no reason to doubt that the defendant “thought” he was “being helpful,” but noted that she could not “overstate” the concern that “other people will see what you have done and be inspired by it.”

“No matter how well-intentioned, people are not allowed to take matters into their own hands,” she said.

Welch apparently believed in the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory that suggested global elites were involved in child sex trafficking. A pizza parlor was somehow incorporated into the conspiracy, leading the restaurant and the owner to receive “death threats,” per Vox, and eventually to the shooting.

This year, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced his retirement from the high court.

Biden elected to nominate Judge Jackson, and stated publicly before he nominated her that his nomination process would be driven largely by race. He promised to appoint a black woman above all other candidates.

This lead many to question whether Biden was appointing the most qualified candidate.

Thus far, Jackson’s legal record has been widely criticized, Valiant News reported.

Some Republican lawmakers, such as Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), have pointed to her record of leniency with child sex offenders, including those who were convicted of possessing child pornography.

During her Supreme Court nomination hearing, Judge Jackson pushed back against those claims, but noted that the sentencing guidelines for child pornographers are “leading to extreme disparities in the system.”

“As a mother and a judge who has had to deal with these cases, I was thinking that nothing could be further from the truth,” Jackson said Tuesday, noting that “these are some of the most difficult cases that a judge has to deal with” as they pertain to pictures of the abuse of children, with judges supposed to read “graphic descriptions” during sentencing.
