In a recent interview with Fox Business host Neil Cavuto, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen faced tough questions about President Joe Biden’s repeated claims that inflation was 9% when he took office.
Cavuto pressed Yellen on why Biden keeps making this assertion, pointing out that inflation was actually only 1.4% when Biden was inaugurated and didn’t reach its peak of 9% until 16 months into his presidency.
“Inflation hit 9% at its peak,” Yellen first argued. Then she admitted, “inflation was much lower under President [Donald] Trump.”
Q: Why does Biden keep claiming inflation was 9% when he took office — when it was actually 1.4%?
YELLEN: "Inflation hit 9% at its peak…"
Q: "16 months after he took office!"
YELLEN: Okay, true, inflation was much lower under President Trump. pic.twitter.com/CptXcogeTt

Yellen acknowledged that inflation was indeed lower before the pandemic, stating, “Inflation was lower before the pandemic, that’s absolutely true.”
This admission inadvertently highlights the fact that inflation was much lower under President Trump, as the pandemic and subsequent economic disruptions occurred during his administration.
Cavuto’s grilling of Yellen comes as the Biden administration faces criticism for its handling of the economy, with many Americans feeling the pinch of rising prices. The admission that inflation was lower under Trump adds fuel to the fire, as it suggests that Biden’s policies may be contributing to the current economic challenges.
The hypocrisy of these statements today from Janet Yellen are just, insane 🙄#BidenAdministration #BidenBorderCrisis #BidenBorderInvasion #BidensAmerica #BidensBorderBloodbath https://t.co/UZN4pX8e3w pic.twitter.com/Q0Hs0orGeE
