In a significant political development, Bernie Marcus, the billionaire co-founder of Home Depot, publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential race. The endorsement comes as a strong show of support for Trump from a prominent figure in the business community.
Marcus, who is also known as a Republican megadonor, made his endorsement known through an op-ed, arguing that Trump is the best candidate to restore America’s prosperity and global standing1. His backing of Trump has served a considerable blow to the former President’s GOP rivals.
“I endorse him not only because he has the best chance of winning but because I believe he is the best person to lead our country,” Marcus stated. This endorsement has been seen as a significant boost to Trump’s campaign, given Marcus’s influence within Republican circles and his role as a job creator.
Marcus recently made remarks critical of President Joe Biden, expressing concern about the direction of the country under his leadership. Marcus referred to Biden as a “dunce” and warned that his policies could potentially turn America into a “third-world country” if he were to win reelection.
Marcus previously donated $250,000 to DeSantis for his gubernatorial reelection campaign.
In an interview with the New York Post, Marcus voiced his dissatisfaction with President Biden’s economic policies and handling of the nation. He highlighted concerns about inflation, the increasing federal debt, and what he perceived as divisive leadership.
Marcus specifically criticized Biden for the surge in inflation and the subsequent impact on American consumers. He stated that his customers were being heavily affected by rising prices, describing the situation as detrimental to their financial well-being. His remarks underscore the challenges faced by many Americans in light of the current economic climate.
“I’m struggling with it now, I think [Trump] has the policies if he would just follow the script and do what he has to do,” Marcus said.
Marcus also called Biden a “dunce” and says he’s the “most divisive president we’ve ever seen,” and denounced “Regulations and all this woke crap.”
“I’ve said this to all of my friends, anybody who would listen: if this election goes the way the last one went, this country will be a Third World country,” he added.
