President Joe Biden has made the decision not to submit his name for the 2024 New Hampshire Democratic primary ballot. This move comes as a result of the ongoing conflict between the state’s adherence to its traditional “first in the nation” status and the new primary calendar established by the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
Julie Chávez Rodríguez, campaign manager for Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign, conveyed in a letter to the New Hampshire Democratic party chairman “While the president wishes to participate in the Primary, he is obligated as a Democratic candidate for President to comply with the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2024 Democratic National Convention promulgated by the Democratic National Committee.”
The letter added, “In accordance with this guidance, Biden for President will refrain from submitting a Declaration of Candidacy.”
Identity politics is a cancer on America & now the electoral process. Apparently New Hampshire is too “white” for Biden. Well, freedom doesn’t have a skin color. NH is the first-in-the-nation primary for a reason & we’re going to keep it that way. 🇺🇸 https://t.co/C2ltgl3kXI

The conflict stems from the DNC’s approval of a new early-primary sequence, which displaced the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary from their traditional first and second positions. Under the new schedule, South Carolina takes the lead, followed by Nevada and New Hampshire on the same day.
It is worth noting that in the 2020 New Hampshire primary, President Biden secured a disappointing fifth place, receiving only 8.4% of the votes and trailing behind Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and Elizabeth Warren.
Although Biden’s decision not to appear on the New Hampshire primary ballot breaks with tradition, it is a strategic move based on complying with the DNC’s guidelines. By opting out of the primary in New Hampshire, the president can focus his efforts and resources on other key states in the upcoming election.
While this decision may impact the dynamics of the New Hampshire primary, it does not diminish Biden’s overall candidacy for the presidency. He remains a significant contender and will continue to campaign nationwide to garner support.
