NEW YORK CITY – Tensions reached a boiling point in New York on Thursday as protesters took to the streets to express their frustration with New York Mayor Eric Adams, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the Biden administration over their handling of the migrant housing crisis.
Protesters gathered outside the Roosevelt Hotel, which has been converted into a temporary shelter for migrants, shouting slogans and demanding action from the city’s leaders. Among the chants, Mayor Adams was repeatedly referred to as “Biden’s bitch,” reflecting the protesters’ perception of his failure to stand up to the federal government on this issue.

The demonstration came less than two weeks after Mayor Adams warned that the influx of migrants could “destroy New York City,” highlighting the city’s struggle to handle the ongoing crisis. Despite these remarks, Adams has been criticized for his perceived lack of action and has repeatedly called on President Biden to expedite the permits required for migrants.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez also faced a significant backlash from the protesters. She was heckled during a press conference, drowned out by angry voices accusing her and other Democrats of exacerbating the crisis. In a particularly tense moment, a man warned that Adams and Ocasio-Cortez “will never be allowed to walk down the streets again. They have destroyed our city.” This comment led Fox News to cut away from their live coverage.
The escalating conflict between city officials and the public suggests that the migrant crisis in New York City is far from over. As Mayor Adams and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez continue to face backlash, it remains to be seen how the city will navigate this complex issue.
