Disgraced British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell has become known as Prison Karen within her correctional facility after lodging a series of complaints against the facility, including one against former transgender cell mate Batman, ironically for smuggling in a sex partner.
Maxwell, the former madam to deceased billionaire and pedophile sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, complained about trysts between cell mate “Batman” and another prisoner taking place overnight in their shared cell, according to The Daily Mail. It resulted in Batman being moved to another part of the correctional facility, but it apparently added fuel to the fire behind Maxwell’s new “Prison Karen” nickname.
Apparently Maxwell’s feud with Batman started after the transgender prisoner began “hanging boxers and socks over the metal rungs of the bed to dry,” leaving them to dangle over the disgraced socialite’s sleeping space.

The relationship further deteriorated when Batman, who the British tabloid reported first began transitioning while behind bars for a firearms offense, began smuggling a “prison girlfriend” to the cell after the facility’s 9 p.m. headcount. The Daily Mail reported, quoting a source with knowledge of the facility:
“The cubes don’t have doors like regular cells so Batman’s girl would just creep in and climb up to the top bunk,” an insider told DailyMail.com.
“Max would hear every grunt and moan as she was trying to sleep just a few feet below. The beds aren’t bolted down and they can rock from side to side and make a lot of noise.”
“Max and Batman weren’t getting along because of the underwear thing so this was the final straw. Inmates aren’t allowed to have sex so she went and reported Batman to the unit’s case manager.”
The outlet explained that Maxwell’s next cell mate quickly became upset over the Epstein madam’s hygiene. Apparently Maxwell, an avid jogger, would return to the cell after exercising without bathing, and The Daily Mail suggested Maxwell may be avoiding the prison showers due to fears of violence sparked by her sex crimes.
“Eventually they had a huge argument – this time over a clothes hanger – and it got so heated that the new bunkie threatened to beat max with a padlock,” the source told The Daily Mail. After, “Max complained, and this girl was also removed.”
“Max seems to think she will eventually get a cube all to herself if she keeps stirring up trouble.”
Maxwell has filed more than 400 complaints while behind bars, boosted by her job in the Florida facility’s law library, the outlet reported. Apparently the spate of complaints, including those about her cellmates, helped earn her “Prison Karen” nickname.
Maxwell is serving a 20 year sentence at FCI Tallahassee, a minimum security prison in Florida that offers yoga, pilates, volleyball, team sports, and arts and crafts to its less than 1,000 inmates.
She was originally sent to FCI Danbury in Connecticut, the facility that inspired “Orange is the New Black.”
