New York City Mayor Eric Adams has revealed plans to revoke his city’s “sanctuary city” status due to a massive surge in illegal immigration.
According to Adams, liberal politicians who officially made New York City a “sanctuary city” did not anticipate such a large influx of illegals, bolstered by efforts from Texas and Florida to send their illegal immigrant population to New York as well as the recent surge of migrants provoked by the end of Title 42.
“The law of sanctuary city was in place long before I became mayor. I’m following the law. As a law enforcement person, you know, we follow the law,” Adams said. “We are now in court now, today, asking the judge to revisit this law to deal with this humanitarian crisis because, even when they decided to put in place that law, no one thought they would be dealing with a humanitarian crisis of this proportion.”

The mayor’s decision comes as city officials face widespread scrutiny for removing homeless veterans from upstate New York hotels to reportedly make room for scores of migrants from the southern border.
The surge in migration comes after the expiration of the Trump administration’s COVID-era Title 42 policy, with tens of thousands of illegal immigrants surging the border last week.
Joe Biden appeared to downplay concerns over the border crisis when he told reporters while biking in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware on Sunday that the situation was going “much better” than they had expected.

How do you think things are going at the border, sir?” the reporter asked Biden.
“Much better than, much, much better than you all expected,” Biden said with a chuckle.
“Do you have any plans to visit the border?” a reporter asked Biden. “Not in the near term, no,” he quipped.
“It’d just be disruptive, not anything else,” he added.

“Secretary Mayorkas said this morning that the numbers at the border have gone down since Title 42 was lifted,” the reporter claimed. “Are you confident that the numbers have peaked, that they’ll continue to go down?”
After a week in which illegal border crossings topped 10,000/day — the highest levels ever record — Biden says the numbers "have gone down."

“No look, they are–they have gone down,” Biden claimed. “My hope is they’ll continue to go down, where we’ll [inaudible] lot more work to do and we need some more help from the Congress as well…in terms of funding and le-legislative changes,” Biden said.
