Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will announce his presidential bid during a Twitter Spaces conversation with Elon Musk on Wednesday, according to reports.
In a report from NBC News, according to three sources “familar with the plan,” DeSantis will sit down with Musk on Twitter Spaces, the site’s audio platform, for a conversation moderated by David Sacks, a “tech enterpreneur… [and] Musk confidant” at 6PM EDT on Wednesday.
Talks between DeSantis and Musk have apparently taken place for “a few weeks,” according to the report, with Musk reportedly having doubts about whether 45th President Donald Trump can win back the White House in 2024.
Coinciding with the Twitter Spaces discussion, the DeSantis campaign will release a launch video. A three day retreat for “high-end fundraisers” of DeSantis in Miami will also be taking place at the same time.
It is not clear whether Musk would make a straight out endorsement for DeSantis during the conversation, but the Florida Governor has seemingly been the tech billionaire’s top pick for a while now, with the Twitter CEO saying he was “leaning towards” him in June last year, after admitting he voted Republican for the first time in the Texas 34th District special election.

“I’m focused on 2022, but with Elon Musk, what I would say is, I welcome support from African-Americans, what can I say!” DeSantis quipped at the time during a press conference.

One piece of evidence suggesting that DeSantis is finally set to declare comes from his Twitter account himself. His handle, which up until at least this weekend, according to the Internet Archive, was @RonDeSantisFL, has now been updated to remove the Florida tag, standing instead as simply @RonDeSantis.
In the NBC News report, there were no mentions of whether there would be further audience participation, other than from Musk, DeSantis, and moderator Sacks, who also is known as a Republican megadonor, who has been outspokenly in favour of DeSantis running.
However, some have suggested, including TPUSA’s Benny Johnson, that others such as Tucker Carlson be invited to ask DeSantis questions. Earlier this month, Carlson announced he would be taking his popular nightly show to Twitter, rather than a major cable network or online video platform, following his departure from Fox News.
