Biden administration National Security Council coordinator John Kirby has praised Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal of Afghanistan, as a silver lining, claimed that Afghan refugees are now living better lives in America, rather than their home country, which remains ruled by the Taliban.
Speaking during a press briefing, Kirby lauded the president’s deadly withdrawal and claimed that there is “a lot to be proud of,” but conceded that “nobody is saying that everything was perfect.”
“I understand you’ve made clear the President does not have any regrets about his decision to withdraw, but in hindsight in reading this, does the President have any regrets about how this withdrawal was carried out?” a reporter asked Kirby.
“There was a lot that went right and a lot of Afghans are now living better lives in this country, and other countries around the world because of the sacrifices and the work of so many American government officials. So yeah, there’s a lot to be proud of,” Kirby said.

Kirby claimed that U.S. planes were carrying loads of “Americans and Afghans alike every 48 minutes” but stressed, “For all this talk of ‘chaos,’ I just didn’t see it.”
13 U.S. Marines were killed during the withdrawal in an attack blamed on ISIS. Additionally, the U.S. abandoned thousands of American citizens, and billions of dollars worth of military equipment was left behind and subsequently picked up by the Taliban.
Still, Kirby declared, “The President is very proud of the manner in which the men and women of the military, the Foreign Service intelligence community, went on and on and on and conducted this withdrawal.”
“I’ve been around operations my entire life, and there’s not a single one that ever goes perfectly according to plan. Things happen,” he added.

At one point, Kirby was asked by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, “Who’s going to get fired?” over the botched withdrawal.

“The purpose of it is not accountability,” Kirby claimed.
“There were children being killed… there were people hanging off of Air Force jets that were leaving, and you’re saying you guys are proud of the way that this mission was conducted?” Doocy asked.
“You bet,” Kirby retorted.
