Baton Rouge-area rapper Jarman King, stage name “Monkey,” was arrested in January and faces felony murder charges over a deadly robbery that took place in Denham Springs, Louisiana late last year.
The 22-year-old was wanted in connection to the deadly double shooting which occurred in October, sheriff’s deputies in St. Helena Parish said in November of 2022.
Monkey was allegedly “involved in the shooting death of one person and the shooting and injuring of another on Calmes Road on Oct. 22 in the late afternoon,” according to police.
Law enforcement described Monkey as being “very violent” with a “history of involvement in violent crimes.”

The sheriff’s office in St. Helena Parish has since released the names of one of Monkey’s now-deceased victims, Jesse J. Thomas III.
Monkey apparently also had an outstanding warrant from September 7, 2022 for his alleged possession of a stolen firearm, the illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated assault with a firearm, police told local media in November.
It remains unclear if his alleged actions in late October were related.
The defendant was additionally wanted on separate charges of armed robbery and murder over an October 27 incident, but no further details on the case have been revealed to the public at this time.
Law enforcement alleged that Monkey has ties to the Baton Rouge and St. Helena Parish area and was “considered armed and dangerous.”
Local media released video showing a detained Monkey wearing a jumpsuit and in handcuffs stepping out of a police vehicle and ostensibly being taken to jail.
