The first Republican 2024 primary debate is set to be held this August, as Fox News partners with Rumble to stream it online.

Speaking to Fox News, GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said she was “excited” to announce the debate, which will be held in partnership with Rumble and the Young America’s Foundation. “The next President of the United States will be on our debate stage, and we look forward to hosting a fair and transparent platform for our great candidates to debate,” McDaniel said.

The debate will take place in August in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a key battleground for the 2024 presidential election, at the same time as the summer meeting for the RNC. Milwaukee will also host the 2024 Republican National Convention, 11 months after the featured debate.

Rumble chairman and CEO Chris Pavlovski said that they were “thrilled” to partner with Fox News and the RNC to stream the debate online and help “promote open dialogue” during the 2024 presidential election.

“Rumble’s mission to protect free speech is not just a slogan, it runs through the DNA of our company,” Pavlovski said. “Rumble saw record traffic and user engagement during the 2022 midterms, and we’re ready to be the premier platform for all candidates in the 2024 elections.”

With a number of candidates having announced so far, and still many potentially yet to declare, McDaniel said that the RNC would soon “put the criteria” out for the debate, which will include whether there will be one or two stages of candidates.

“We don’t know how many candidates there’s going to be so that will dictate whether there’s one or two stages,” McDaniel added. “Right now I don’t see there being two stages but I could be wrong on that. The field’s forming later than usual.”

Candidates who have declared so far include Donald Trump, the current front-runner, Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, and businessmen Vivek Ramaswamy and Perry Johnson. Potential primary challengers include Ron DeSantis, who comes second in most polls, Tim Scott, Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, and Mike Pence, among others.

However, McDaniel confirmed that every candidate must pledge their support for the eventual GOP presidential nominee before they are allowed on the debate stage. “It’s about beating Joe Biden,” she said. “It’s about beating what’s happening in this country right now. And we can only do that united.”

President Trump famously refused to make that commitment in a 2016 primary debate, and other candidates, such as Asa Hutchinson, have declared Trump should not be the nominee.
