The light in the US Capitol went out during a congressional hearing on Big Tech censorship at Twitter on Wednesday, prompting one member of the House GOP to make a quip about the “Green New Deal.”
On Tuesday, former Twitter employees were by House Republicans about censorship of conservatives and collaboration with Biden administration federal agencies.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took the opportunity to complain about conservative accounts she didn’t like, such as LibsOfTikTok. Ocasio-Cortez is the primary architect of the “Green New Deal,” which has been widely criticized for its ludicrously expensive policy proposals.
While Rep. Gary Palmer was questioning some of Twitter’s top censors during the pre-Elon Musk era, the power went out at the Capitol and plunged the room into darkness.
After a few moments, Palmer quipped, “Sounds like the Green New Deal to me,” drawing laughter from the audience.

The power outage put a halt to the proceedings, and the hearing was temporarily suspended.
In December, the House Ethics Committee announced that they were conducting an investigation into Ocasio- Cortez.
In a statement, the committee revealed that “the Acting Chairwoman and Acting Ranking Member of the Committee on Ethics have jointly decided to extend the matter regarding Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, which was transmitted to the Committee by the office of Congressional Ethics on June 23, 2022,” though the officials omitted the specific reason for the investigation.
“The Committee notes that the mere fact of a referral or an extension, and the mandatory disclosure of such an extension and the name of the subject of the matter, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgement on behalf of the Committee,” the statement added.
