The left-wing group Sedition Hunters, who are dedicated to tracking down anyone involved in the January 6 protests, are upset at the fact that over 44,000 hours of footage from the day has been released to Tucker Carlson.
On Monday, it was reported that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy provided access to the tens of thousands of hours of security footage from the Capitol on that day, with Axios noting that Tucker Carlson’s producers were in Washington DC last week to sift through it all.
Speaking to Axios’ Mike Allen, Tucker argued that there was “never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret. “If there was ever a question that’s in the public’s interest to know, it’s what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it. It’s impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that.”
Sedition Hunters, who describe themselves as an organisation dedicated to “hunting and distributing clear face images of those that stormed the Capitol,” were upset by the fact that all of the footage was given to Tucker, and not just released to the public.
The group noted that reporter Julie Kelly, who has been following much of the developments on the Jan 6 protestors, argued that Tucker’s 2021 documentary ‘Patriot Purge’ had “single-handedly helped change the narrative” around the protests.
“Releasing footage to a prefer [sic] outlet who will curate it to promote their narrative rather than the truth is a danger to the public good,” the group posted on Twitter on Monday.

“We are not nervous about the release of the J6 tapes,” they added. “WE WANT THEM RELEASED but we want them released to everyone and not just one biased so called [sic] news source. Released to the public so that NO ONE can put a spin and promote their own narrative.”

While the footage may not be released to the whole public as the Sedition Hunters would like, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed that everyone who was detained for protesting at the Capitol that day would get access to it.
