Joe Biden appears to have caught COVID-19 for the second time this month, with the latest test reported moments ago on Saturday afternoon.
Reports late this week indicated that Biden had left quarantine on Wednesday repeated tests came back negative for COVID-19, allowing the 79-year-old to resume his White House duties by the end of this week. This afternoon, however, that changed.
The White House doctor described Biden’s illness as a likely “rebound” infection, according to CNN, and noted that doctors have connected to a small number of patients using Pfizer’s new anti-COVID pill, Paxlovid.
White House Dr. Kevin O’Connor insisted that Biden is experiencing “no reemergence of symptoms” due to the “rebound” infection, but stated that his quarantine procedures will resume immediately. Biden is vaccinated against COVID-19 and has taken booster shots.
“Given his positive antigen test,” said the doctor, “he will initiate strict isolation procedures.”
Biden first tested positive for COVID-19 on July 21, the day after he confused Americans by telling them he has cancer caused by pollution from oil companies. The White House later directed reporters to a Washington Post columnist who claimed Biden was referring to non-melanoma skin cancer he had removed prior to his ascension to the Oval Office.
In a statement released by the White House, it was noted that Biden would be taking Paxlovid. Valiant News reported at the time that the drug is known to cause a reemergence of symptoms in a small number of patients, writing “Biden has also started taking Paxlovid, the Pfizer drug that aims to lessen the extent of COVID-19 symptoms, but sometimes appears to cause the illness to lay dormant then return after the patient stops taking the drug.”
Joe Biden is 79-years-old. If he decides to run for reelection in 2024 and wins, he would be 82 when entering his second term.
