A report from Politico claims president Joe Biden is “seething” over his poll numbers being lower than former President Donald Trump, who he refers to as the “worst president” in U.S. history.
In an article published on Friday titled “Biden wants to get out more, seething that his standing is now worse than Trump’s,” Politico claims “the White House has found itself either limited or helpless in its efforts to combat the forces pummeling them.”
Morale in the Biden camp is reportedly “plummeting” amid comparisons to former Democrat one-term president Jimmy Carter.
“The president has expressed exasperation that his poll numbers have sunk below those of Donald Trump,” Politico reported, noting that Biden frequently refers to Trump as “the worst President” in history.
Biden’s wife and family are reportedly angered by the decision of White House staff to treat the president with kid gloves, hiding him from tough media questions and keeping from appearing in public.
Rice University presidential historian Douglas Brinkley stated, “[Carter] lost because of inflation and bad feelings about the economy and a sense that America was flailing and Biden is finding now that it’s hard to be a leader when other things are unraveling.”
“He can’t just be a mourner-in-chief, he can’t just play defense. He needs to be on offense and convince Americans that, despite the challenges, better days are ahead,” Brinkley added.
Biden recently stated that “Democracy is not perfect,” further noting that “it’s never been good” before seemingly correcting himself to add “perfect.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, today we remember, and we reaffirm, freedom is worth the sacrifice,” Biden said during a Memorial Day speech. “Democracy is not perfect. It’s never been good – perfect. But it’s worth fighting for.”
Biden’s remarks came as a surprise to many viewers, as criticisms of democracy are most commonly found in right-wing politics at the present time.
