Two new books about Washington, D.C. political establishment figures Meghan McCain and Jill Biden have generated anemic hard copy sales, according to a new report from the Washington Examiner. McCain decried the reports as “Cheap & false headlines meant simply for clickbait and to be nasty.”
The Washington Examiner reported on Friday that Meghan McCain’s memoir Bad Republican has sold just 244 copies.
The title from the daughter of one of America’s most controversial senators currently features an average rating of 3 stars from some 39 reviews on Amazon, despite describing McCain’s “adventures on the New York dating scene” and “views on cancel culture and internet trolls as well as life backstage as the sole Republican at America’s most-watched daytime talk show.”
According to the Examiner, “A book agent said the low sales were a surprise considering the celebrity status of the former View star and outspoken daughter of former Sen. John McCain.”
Bad Republican: A Memoir is currently sold by Random House, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target, Walmart, and several other major retailers.
McCain responded to the news on Friday by writing on Twitter, “My book Bad Republican was released @audible_com seven months ago and both I and @audible_com have been thrilled with the response and sales. The hard copy was just soft released meant simply as a collectible for people who have already downloaded and consumed it.”
“Cheap & false headlines meant simply for clickbait and to be nasty will not diminish how proud I am of Bad Republican and the response from so many,” McCain continued.
