Bush Slams ‘Decision of One Man’ to Launch ‘Unjustified’ ‘Brutal Invasion of Iraq, I Mean Ukraine’

“An absence of checks and balances and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq,” said George W. Bush.

On Wednesday former President George W. Bush accidentally condemned the “wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq” instead of Ukraine during a speech in Dallas, Texas.

Bush made the comments in an attempt at condemning Russia and criticizing the nation’s political apparatus. “Russian elections are rigged,” he said during the speech. “Political opponents are imprisoned or otherwise eliminated from participating in the electoral process.”

“The result is an absence of checks and balances in [Russia] and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq.” Bush cringed, then quickly corrected himself. “I mean of Ukraine. Iraq,” the former president said with a nervous chuckle. “Anyway, 75, uh,” he said, referring to his old age.

Bush was president during the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. The war lasted two years short of a decade and had led to the deaths of thousands American troops and Iraqi civilians. Opposition to the Iraq War became central to the Democrats’ messaging in the early 2000s, and President Barack Obama promised to end the war.

45th President Donald Trump maintains that he always opposed the war in Iraq.

Bush is no stranger to media flubs, and was frequently mocked for mispronouncing words and launching into confusing non sequiturs.

The former president was recently heckled in Beverly Hills, California by Iraq War Veteran Mike Prysner, who confronted him demanding an apology for the war.

“Mr. Bush, when are you going to apologize for the million Iraqis that are dead because you lied?” Prysner yelled, referring to the false U.S. government-sponsored allegation that Iraq was harboring “weapons of mass destruction” as justification for an invasion.

“You lied about weapons of mass destruction. You lied about connections to 9/11. You lied about Iraq being a threat,” he said to Bush. “You sent me to Iraq. You sent me to Iraq in 2003. My friends are dead.”

“You killed people. You lied. You lied about WMDs. A million Iraqis are dead because you lied. My friends are dead because you lied. You need to apologize. Apologize!” Prysner said as he was dragged away by security.

45th President Donald Trump had taken issue with Bush’s war in Iraq while on the 2016 campaign trail. “Obviously the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake, all right?” Trump said during a Republican Presidential Primary debate.

“We spent two trillion dollars, thousands of lives, we don’t even have it. Iran is taking over Iraq with the second largest oil reserves in the world. Obviously it was a mistake. George Bush made a mistake. We can make mistakes, but that one was a beauty,” Trump continued.

“We should’ve never been in Iraq. We have destabilized the Middle East,” said Trump. “They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction, there were none, and they knew there were none. There were no weapons of mass destruction.”
