Joe Biden has claimed that 9mm bullets when shot can “blow the lung out of the body,” and repeated lies about cannon ownership that has been debunked multiple times.
Speaking to the press before his Memorial Day speech, Biden discussed the topic of gun control, and seemed to repeat rather strange comments about various calibers of ammunition and the Second Amendment itself.
Biden said that he was showed an “x-ray” and told that “a 22 caliber bullet will lodge in the lung,” and medical professionals would be able to remove it. However, when discussing 9mm bullets, Biden claimed that getting shot with a 9mm bullet “blow the lung out of the body.” It is unclear what he meant by this.
“The idea of these high caliber weapons, there is simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting,” he went on.

The former Vice President immediately faced criticism for his comments regarding 9mm ammunition. “Biden has absolutely, utterly no idea what he is talking about here,” Gregory Miller argued. “9mm is the most common caliber for modern handguns,” he added, calling it the “minimum useful self defense round.”
I had wondered if Biden was mistaking 9mm for AR rounds because there’s been so much discussion about the damage AR bullets have done.
But he was intentionally targeting 9mm, the most popular home defense caliber in America.
Interesting discussion. https://t.co/TeA1DYsRip

OMG Biden has absolutely, utterly no idea what he is talking about here. 9 mm is the most common caliber for modern handguns. Including those used by most police & his own secret service agents. It's the minimum useful self defense round. https://t.co/pwoKenPzHI

Biden then continued by claiming that the Constitution and the Second Amendment was “never absolute,” claiming that “you couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed.” However, this is false, and has been debunked by verified fact checkers at least four times previously.
He had made the exact same claims in May 2020, June 2021, and February and April of this year. FactCheck.org wrote that, in fact, “individuals actually could get special waivers to use privately owned ships carrying cannons during wartime.”
David Kopel of the Independence Institute described his previous comments as “completely false,” noting that neither in 1791 nor in the preceding centuries was there any American law against owning particular types of arms.”
While Biden claimed that there was no “rational” reasons for owning a 9mm firearm, he argued that “rational” Republicans, like Senators Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn recognise that “we can’t continue” without serious gun reform.
