Lawyers representing 45th President Donald Trump in his continuing legal battle against Twitter suggested their client is reevaluating his lawsuit against Twitter due to Tesla CEO Elon Musk purchasing the platform despite saying he would not use the platform even if invited back.

Trump sued Twitter last year, alleging that the big tech company violated his First Amendment right to free speech after the website permanently banned his accounts following the events of January 6, 2021.

Now, attorney John P. Coale told the Washington Times that he “expects to meet with Musk” after the African-American billionaire, who Trump has described as a “good man,” finalizes his purchase of the embattled tech giant.

“When all of that happens,” said Coale, “we expect to sit down with him and talk about the case, see what we can work out.”

Coale added that “dropping the lawsuit is an option that will be on the table,” per the Washington Times.

Around the time of the announcement that Twitter accepted Musk’s offer to buy the company for $54.20 per share, Trump gave a statement to Fox News indicating that he would not rejoin the platform if invited, and that he would instead focus on Truth Social.

“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH,” said the 45th President. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”

Truth Social, backed by Trump, places Trump as a direct competitor to Musk. The likely new Twitter owner recently remarked on the performance of Trump’s social network in the app store.

He also made fun of Trump’s choice for a name, while acknowledging that the platform exists because of Twitter’s behavior.

“Truth Social (terrible name) exists because Twitter censored free speech,” wrote Musk. “Should be called Trumpet instead!”

Trump, meanwhile, began using his Truth Social account only after Musk’s offer to buy Twitter was accepted.

Yesterday Trump wrote, “I’M BACK! #COVFEFE” on the platform, along with a photo of himself outside his Mar-a-Lago home and club.
