President Joe Biden repeated a false claim that he “used to” drive an 18-wheeler truck in his youth during a visit to a Mack truck manufacturing facility in lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.
“I used to drive a truck, it’s a long story, anyway,” Biden remarked during his speech at the Mack plant.
“It’s getting hard – and I thought I’d get a chance to drive one of these suckers today,” Biden added, jerking a thumb backwards to gesture towards the two Mack truck cabs in the background.
It is unlikely that Biden would know how to actually drive one of the trucks at the facility if the opportunity was offered. The former Vice President’s previous claims of having driven an 18-wheeler truck were rated false by Snopes in 2021.
Biden: “I used to drive a truck.”
This is completely false.

“I used to drive an 18-wheeler … I got to,” Biden said while appearing at a Mack facility in 2021.
Snopes noted in its fact check, “The president certainly was never a professional trucker. As the RNC notes above, Biden has spent the vast majority of his professional life as a politician. He became a U.S. senator in 1973. Before that, he worked at a law firm.”
“Biden appears to be referring to a 500-mile trip he took in 1973 on a 47,000-pound cargo truck carrying hollow-shell pipe,” Snopes continued. “Biden, a freshman senator at the time, said that he took the trip because he ‘wanted a firsthand account from the truckers, who say they carry 50 percent of all the goods shipped within the United States.'”
Biden did reportedly drive a school bus as a side job during his time working for a law firm, but buses are visibly similar to Mack trucks and do not have 18 wheels.
Controversy has continued to follow the 46th President of the United States in regards to comments he has made about his past accomplishments, some of which are regarded dubiously by fact-checkers.
