This week Gab CEO Andrew Torba announced that the website had received a $200,000 upgrade to its servers that saw the site’s speed doubled. He made the announcement on the heels of a separate upgrade to Gab TV, the social media platform’s video streaming alternative to YouTube.
In a post on Gab yesterday, Torba announced that the website “just switched over to $200,000 in new servers,” which means “Gab is now twice as fast.”
“We will continue to make optimizations and adjustments over the coming days,” wrote Torba. He added that the Gab team is “very pleased with the results thus far!”
Earlier this week, Gab Chief Technical Officer Fosco Marotto announced a similar round of upgrades to Gab TV.
In a Gab Community Update on the Parallel Economy, a phrase Torba coined to describe Christian, America First community-based business and tech alternatives to multinational corporations, Torba explained that these upgrades are part of a greater effort, and outlined Gab’s road map for the future.
In that post, Torba explained that Gab has increased the capabilities of Gab Ads, rolled out GabPay Merchant Processing into a private beta, and completed its Gab Marketplace.
“Over the past few months we have been buying six figures worth of server hardware in order to massively expand the Gab Cloud infrastructure which Gab’s services are built on,” wrote Torba.
“Today we deployed those servers into production and while we are still making optimizations, the initial results show that Gab is now twice as fast across the board as it was before.”
The upgrade comes as Gab continues to dominate the market for alternative social media platforms.
According to Alexa web statistics, a service owned by Amazon that is set to be phased out later this year, Gab receives more than two times the traffic of its nearest competition at 6.7 million hits per day.
Gettr, the Twitter alternative run by Jason Miller and financed by Chinese billionaire Miles Guo, receives 2.6 million hits per day.
Parler, once thought to be dominant in conservative circles, now receives 230,000 hits per day.
“Andrew is a pioneer, leading millions away from the information stranglehold of Big Tech.”
– Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ)
Truth Social, the new social media app associated with 45th President Donald Trump, receives around 550,000 hits per day. The app is currently not allowing new users, and there are up to 1 million people reportedly waiting to use the site.
Torba noted that, aside from Gab, these sites are “funded by billionaires.”
Gab’s growth has not gone unnoticed by conservative politicians, who are increasingly using the website to connect with voters – and potential donors – from across the country.
Rep. Paul Gosar recently congratulated Torba on the platform’s success, and noted that he’s seen its growth first hand since joining last year.
“It’s amazing what Andrew Torba and his team have done with Gab,” wrote Gosar. “I joined this truly free speech platform last November and since then I’ve watched as the performance, quality, and features have increased astronomically.”
“Andrew is a pioneer, leading millions away from the information stranglehold of Big Tech. I’m excited to see the Parallel Economy develop further. Gab on!”
Other politicians have reportedly made a killing fundraising on Gab, including conservative firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Greene’s successful use of Gab for campaigning became the subject of criticism from the American Jewish Congress, which claimed she raised $3.2 million “by pandering to extremists on Gab.”
