A school district in DeSoto, Texas – part of the Dallas, Texas metro area – has confirmed that a brawl took place between middle school students and a teacher, and says that students who filmed the bloody fight and posted it online may be punished.
The fight occurred last Wednesday at a DeSoto, Texas middle school in the Dallas area, and prompted an early Spring break for the students as administrators canceled school the next day, fearing additional violence.
It began, according to the DeSoto Independent School District, when a group of students began attacking a substitute teacher.
Per the district, the substitute teacher apparently defended himself against a mob of students, who were hurling chairs at him in the video. Video of the incident appears to show the teacher respond by hurling chairs back at the students.
Apparently, some videos show the teacher with a visible injury bleeding on his head. Paramedics were called to the school to address the injuries.
One video of the fight has more than 2.8 million views on Twitter.

The school district said that “all parties” involved in the brawl “will be held accountable to the full extent of the district’s ability to address the matter,” according to WFAA.
However, in a statement released to the media, the school district also suggested that the students who filmed the physical altercation happen in their classroom may also face some form of punishment.
It warned that “unauthorized filming with the school setting and posting of such content online are violations of the DeSoto ISD Student Code of Conduct which could result in disciplinary action in accordance with district guidelines.”
According to Sportskeeda, “One of the first videos was posted by DeSoto resident Rhonda Kaye, whose child is reportedly a DeSoto West Middle School student. In the post, which has since been deleted, Kaye reported that the incident took place in the first week of March.”
It remains unclear if the school district has taken any actions against the students or substitute teacher involved in the fight, or the students involved with recording the brawl.
Local media reports that there will be an increased police presence at the middle school when classes resume.
