Speaking to a British radio station, disgraced neocon and former Trump advisor John Bolton baselessly claimed that if President Trump had been re-elected, Vladimir Putin would have taken Kiev in the invasion of Ukraine already.

Bolton, who served under President Trump as a national security advisor, appeared with Matt Frei of LBC on Saturday, and attacked the Biden regime over its handling of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, claiming that they had gone nowhere near far enough.

“You can impose pain on countries, you can impose cost, but it doesn’t necessarily stop their behaviour,” Bolton said, noting that “Iran constructed a shadow financial network to evade American sanctions,” and that “the best day for sanctions is the day they’re announced and it only goes downhill after that because the target doesn’t just sit there and take it.”

Despite his criticism of the Biden regime, Bolton told Frei that “if Trump had been re-elected, Putin would be in Kiev already.”

Some may question the merits of this claim, given that Trump’s is the only modern U.S. presidency that has not seen Putin expand his country’s borders by invading its neighbors.

Russia went to war with Georgia in 2008 under George Bush Jr, and invaded the Crimea in 2014 during Obama’s tenure.

“I think people should learn from this example in Ukraine that force is a method still for some regimes to use in the world,” Bolton added.

“History has not come to an end, and if you want to resist efforts for regional hegemony or global dominance, you’d better be ready for a very long struggle,” hinting at a potential desire to use military force.

When asked if there was any danger of a potential war with Russia “going nuclear,” Bolton said the chances were “pretty remote,” and that Putin was only “bluffing” when he raised the status of his nuclear forces.

“The heads of US intelligence agencies testified that… they saw no operational change of the nuclear forces,” Bolton argued.

Bolton has a long track record of advocating for war with nuclear states, including North Korea, and still believes that the Iraq War was necessary to overthrow Saddam Hussein.
