EXCLUSIVE: Intrepid English Madlad Miles Routledge Talks with Jack Hadfield

Routledge, who is in Ukraine, described it as being safer than London or Birmingham

Famous for his misadventures in wartorn Afghanistan, Miles Routledge spoke with Jack Hadfield before he left to see the conflict in Ukraine.

In Part 1 of the interview, Routledge and Hadfield revisited the trip to Kabul during its fall that made him famous.

Describing Kabul as being “safer than Detroit or London,” Routledge recounted his tales of running from Taliban trucks, doing a live Twitch stream with thousands of viewers in the middle of a warzone, and debunked some of the lies that were propagated by the mainstream media.

He also gave a before-untold insight into his past, and how he came to have this quintessentially English spirit of adventure.

In Part 2 of the interview, Routledge discussed with Hadfield his then-upcoming trip to South Sudan, and other future travel opportunities, along with the importance of bringing attention to the plight of the people who live in the places he visits, a mantra he is maintaining in his current venture in Ukraine.

Routledge gained international acclaim after he became stranded in Afghanistan while the United States and its allies hurriedly withdrew from the country. Concerned for his safety but caught in midst of history unfolding, originally told his story to 4chan users, where the situation was then unexpectedly picked up by mainstream outlets.

He successfully escaped the country on a flight for expats, and since then has been adventuring across the globe, including his current trip to Ukraine, where the conflict with Russia is ongoing. Recently, Routledge described the situation on the ground during the 2022 Invasion of Ukraine as “safer than London or Birmingham.”
