“I think that reports of the death of democracy in the United States are grossly, grossly exaggerated,” UK PM Boris Johnson told CNN host Jake Tapper.

CNN host Jake Tapper got visibly upset during an interview with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson during an interview on Sunday after the British leader appeared to brush off the events of January 6 as merely “weird” and “uncomfortable.”

During the interview, Jake Tapper asked Johnson about the state of American “democracy,” which he said was on “life support.” Tapper asked, “Are you worried at all?” Johnson replied in disagreement.

“No,” Johnson said. “I think that reports of the death of democracy in the United States are grossly, grossly exaggerated.” Johnson went on to add that he views America as a “shining city on a hill, and for me, and it will continue to be so.” He then heaped praise on Joe Biden’s leadership.

“I think that the mere fact that Joe Biden has stepped up to the plate in the way that he has shows that the instincts of America are still very much in the right place,” Johnson said.

Johnson then called the events of January 6 “weird, and kind of attractive,” which appeared to make Tapper uncomfortable.

“People died,” Tapper said. “I mean, it was pretty serious,” he insisted, making it known that he disagreed with the PM’s choice of words.

“It was pretty weird,” Johnson said once more. “I won’t deny that. But I don’t believe that American democracy is under serious threat. Far from it. I continue to believe that America is the greatest global guarantor of democracy and freedom.”

45th President Donald Trump also took issue with the media’s depiction of the events of January 6 in a speech delivered last week.

“If the committee cared about the truth, they would reveal everything the U.S. government knows about the individuals who have not been arrested despite being caught on video urging the crowd to press forward — including people like Ray Epps,” Trump said.

“They would tell us why Nancy Pelosi rejected 10,000 National Guard troops that I recommended be there, because I heard it was going to be a big crowd,” he continued. “They turned it down, they didn’t want it.”
