Jack Dorsey is leaving Twitter’s board of directors effective today as the co-founder and former CEO’s term on the board has reached its expiration date heading into the big tech platform’s 2022 shareholders meeting.
Dorsey previously left his position as CEO of the company in November 2021, passing the mantle to Twitter’s current CEO Parag Agrawal.
The news of Dorsey’s planned departure from Twitter comes amid efforts by Tesla and Space X CEO Elon Musk to acquire the company to restore free speech, end censorship of conservatives, and ultimately establish the big tech platform as a “public square” for users on the internet to spread ideas.
Despite backlash from liberals and Democrat politicians, who support Twitter’s current policy of censoring Republicans and conservatives, Dorsey signaled his support of Musk for attempting to take Twitter “back from Wall Street.”
“I love Twitter. Twitter is the closest thing we have to a global consciousness,” Dorsey tweeted last month.
The idea and service is all that matters to me, and I will do whatever it takes to protect both. Twitter as a company has always been my sole issue and my biggest regret. It has been owned by Wall Street and the ad model. Taking it back from Wall Street is the correct first step.

“The idea and service is all that matters to me, and I will do whatever it takes to protect both,” he added, before admitting the platform is imperfect.
“Twitter as a company has always been my sole issue and my biggest regret. It has been owned by Wall Street and the ad model,” said Dorsey. “Taking it back from Wall Street is the correct first step.”
He said that he shares Musk’s ethos, and added that he believes Agrawal does too.
“Elon’s goal of creating a platform that is ‘maximally trusted and broadly inclusive’ is the right one. This is also @paraga’s goal, and why I chose him,” Dorsey said of Agrawal.
Dorsey had then thanked both Agrawal and Musk for taking Twitter in a new direction and getting it “out of an impossible situation.”
“Thank you both for getting the company out of an impossible situation. This is the right path…I believe it with all my heart,” Dorsey tweeted. “I’m so happy Twitter will continue to serve the public conversation. Around the world, and into the stars!”
