In a shocking revelation that has sent shockwaves through the Department of Defense, a senior Pentagon official was arrested on Tuesday for running an illegal pitbull fighting ring for over 20 years.
Frederick Moorefield, a long-serving communications official in the Department of Defense, now faces serious charges related to animal cruelty and illicit activities. This arrest followed a thorough investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation that led to the discovery of five pitbull-type dogs and an assortment of dog-fighting paraphernalia at Moorefield’s residence.
The search of Moorefield’s house also revealed a grim scene, with agents uncovering battery jump cables reportedly used to execute dogs. Investigators found the dogs in a windowless room in his basement, alongside weighted collars and heavy metal chains.

In addition to Moorefield, authorities also arrested an accomplice identified as Mr. Flythe. A further seven pitbull-type dogs were recovered from Flythe’s residence.
The charges levied against Moorefield and Flythe include animal cruelty, operating an illegal gambling operation, and conspiracy to commit a federal offense. If convicted, they could face severe penalties, including imprisonment.
This disturbing case sheds light on the underground world of dogfighting, a brutal and illegal activity that subjects animals to horrific conditions and treatment. It also raises questions about how such a high-ranking government official could allegedly be involved in such a heinous crime.
As the case unfolds, it is expected to prompt a rigorous internal review within the Department of Defense while serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against animal cruelty across the nation.
