45th President Donald Trump confirmed he will not participate in the upcoming GOP presidential primary debates. Despite leading the field by a significant margin, as shown by a recent CBS poll, Trump has decided to steer clear of the debate stage.

The CBS poll shows Trump leading with 62%, a staggering 46 points ahead of his closest contender, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Other candidates, including Chris Christie, Mike Pence, and Vivek Ramaswamy, trail even further behind, polling at 2%, 5%, and 7% respectively.

“New CBS POLL, just out, has me leading the field by “legendary” numbers. TRUMP 62%, 46 Points above DeSanctimonious (who is crashing like an ailing bird!), Ramaswamy 7%, Pence 5%, Scott 3%, Haley 2%, Sloppy Chris Christie 2%, “Aida” Hutchinson 1%,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had, with Energy Independence, Strong Borders & Military, Biggest EVER Tax & Regulation Cuts, No Inflation, Strongest Economy in History, & much more. I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”

Trump’s decision to abstain from the debates has triggered a flurry of speculation about the potential implications of his move. His absence leaves a void on the debate stage, providing an opportunity for other candidates, such as DeSantis and Ramaswamy, to seize the spotlight. DeSantis is rumored to be planning to support Trump throughout the debate, and instead focus his attacks on Ramaswamy, who has positioned himself as the most Trump-adjacent candidate.

Trump’s decision could also be a strategic move. By opting out of the debates, Trump can avoid any potential missteps or gaffes, while allowing his low-polling competitors to fight among themselves.

Some critics argue that the debates provide an essential platform for candidates to present their policies and plans to Republican primary voters. Yet, given Trump’s commanding lead in the polls, his participation may not be necessary to maintain his position.

The former president’s decision to opt out of the debates adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already unpredictable election season. As the race continues to unfold, the impact of Trump’s decision remains to be seen.

The first debate will be held on Thursday. In addition to cable, it will air on the streaming website, Rumble.
