Campaign staffers and top supporters of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appear to be rooting for the Biden administration in their ongoing effort to imprison 45th President Donald Trump.
According to a report by NBC, an unnamed “operative” in DeSantis’ “orbit” insisted that Trump will not win his latest legal kerfuffle with Biden administration Special Prosecutor Jack Smith.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in Georgia,” this person apparently said, alluding the president’s election investigation in the Peach State. “But the man is going to prison. It’s happening. So at this point, where we are is ‘Who’s going to be the nominee?’ … Donald Trump broke the law, and frankly, I’m not a never-Trumper. I’m really not. But this is too much.”

“This is something that if you were to get George Washington, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson and sit them down and explain to them what’s happening … they would disagree with what Donald Trump was doing and would agree that he should be prosecuted,” the person added.
Superimposed on the statements made by the anonymous DeSantis staffer, former Trump ally-turned-DeSantis surrogate Steve Cortez accused Trump of being “reckless” and making it “easy” for the Biden administration to arrest the Republican Party’s leading frontrunner in the 2024 race.
“The DOJ is a menace. But Trump was reckless, and he made it easy for his enemies. Both concepts can be true at once,” Cortez wrote on Twitter, including a screenshot of an article from the Wall Street Journal titled “The Self-Destructive Donald Trump.”

In the piece cited by Cortez, the WSJ Editorial Board alleged that “the document indictment is misguided, but he made it easier for his enemies, as he always does.”
Reacting to Cortez claims, the Trump campaign’s Alex Bruesewitz accused “Team DeSantis” of “actively cheering on the persecution of Trump because they know they can’t win the nomination unless Trump is ‘taken out.'”
“Horrible! MAGA will never support DeSantis again no matter what happens,” he added.

Responding to NBC’s article, Bruesewitz noted, “A DeSantis staffer told NBC News that Trump should go to prison. Does @RonDeSantis agree with his staffer?! Team DeSantis is just as bad as the radical left! Nasty people!”

While DeSantis surrogates online seemingly root for the former president’s incarceration, other 2024 GOP primary candidates have rushed to Trump’s defense.
Speaking in Miami hours before Trump would be indicted, presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy extended his call from last week, when he had declared that if he took office in January 2025, he would pardon President Trump for the federal charges that Biden’s Justice Department brought upon the 45th President over potential mishandling of classified documents.
I challenge every US Presidential candidate to join me in standing for TRUTH. Commit to pardon Donald Trump for these federal charges on Day 1, or explain why you won’t. No one should hide. Not Biden. Not DeSantis. Not Haley. Not Pence. Not RFK. Not Scott. Not anyone. Principles… pic.twitter.com/qYP3fUrE5R

“I have challenged, I have demanded, that every other candidate in this race, either sign this commitment to pardon on January 20th 2025, or else to explain why they are not,” Ramaswamy said, calling on both Republicans and Democrats to join him in his pledge to pardon Trump.
