Two House Republicans are working to expunge the impeachments of 45th President Donald Trump from the record, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep. Elise Stefanik introducing separate resolutions that would purge each impeachment.

Stefanik introduced a resolution to expunge Trump’s impeachment related to the alleged “insurrection” on Januay 6, 2021. Breitbart reported that she believes the Democrats running the impeachment trial “did not meet the burden” of proving Trump committed any crimes or caused an “insurrection or rebellion against the United States.”

“From the beginning of this sham process, I stood up against Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff’s blatant attempt to shred the Constitution as House Democrats ignored the Constitution and failed to follow the legislative process,” said Stefanik. “President Donald Trump was rightfully acquitted, and it is past time to expunge Democrats’ sham smear against not only President Trump’s name, but against millions of patriots across the country.”

Greene, meanwhile introduced a resolution to expunge Trump’s 2019 impeachment over his “perfect phone call” with Ukraine, in which Democrats claimed Trump sought to pressure Ukraine to provide information about alleged criminal wrongdoings of Joe Biden and Hunter Biden, leveraging U.S. support in exchange for dirt on his political opponent.

“The Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff, weaponized a perfect phone call with Ukraine to interfere with the 2020 election,” Greene said. “Meanwhile, the FBI had credible evidence of Joe and Hunter Biden’s corrupt dealings, confirming their involvement in a foreign bribery pay-to-play scheme and receipt of over $5 million each.”

Trump was ultimately acquitted of both impeachments in the U.S. Senate, but remains among 17th President Andrew Johnson and 42nd President Bill Clinton in the small category of U.S. Presidents who were impeached in the U.S. House.

According to Breitbart, the expungement effort would “make the Democrats’ impeachments of Trump nonexistent, as if such Articles of Impeachment had never passed the full House of Representatives.”

The move comes as Democrats brace for possible impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden, with Rep. Lauren Boebert fast-tracking a vote on impeachment in the U.S. House this week.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy ultimately persuaded Boebert to allow her articles of impeachment to be legally reviewed, but the Colorado politician promised she will force a vote if the process takes too long.
