Biden talked about his favorite ice cream, “good looking kids,” and the need to pass his assault weapons ban.

In remarks after the mass shooting at a Nashville Christian elementary school on Monday, Joe Biden claimed that the assailant was armed with “two AK-47s” and pushed for a nationwide gun ban, after first pausing for ice cream recommendations.

Earlier today, a 28-year-old woman reportedly shot students and staff, killing at least six at the Covenant School, part of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee.

“We have to do more to stop gun violence. It’s ripping our communities apart, ripping the soul of this nation, ripping at the very soul of the nation,” Biden said. “And we have to do more to protect our schools so they aren’t turned into prisons.”

“You know, the shooter in this situation reportedly had two assault weapons and a pistol, two AK-47s. So I call on Congress again to pass my assault weapons ban,” Biden added. No information about the make or model of the weapons had been given by officials at the time of Biden’s remarks.

When the president first approached the podium to address the tragic deaths of at least six Americans, Biden first discussed his well-publicized love of ice cream, and even made a product endorsement.

“I eat Jeni’s Ice Cream, chocolate chip. I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream,” Biden said, drawing disparate laughter from the crowd. “By the way, I have a full refrigerator upstairs. You think I’m kidding? I’m not.”

After amusing the audience with ice cream talk, Biden then appeared distracted by “good looking kids” in front of him.

“It’s delight to have you all here — and who are those good looking kids back there?” Biden asked.

At one point, the president appeared to mistake himself for a Senator, despite Biden having not serve as a lawmaker since he resigned to join Barack Obama’s presidential ticket over one decade ago in 2009.

“And by the way, I’m know I’m not supposed to, [inaudible] I’m known as America’s most pro-labor Senator. Well guess what, then, as, now, as president, well guess what?” Biden said as he began to whisper. “They’re, in fact, increasing the number of women [inaudible] labor unions. It’s gotta be. Oh no, you think I’m kidding? I’m not kidding.”
