MSNBC host Katty Kay on television this week stated that she was “shocked and appalled” when she found out her children, 22 and 16, refused to get COVID-19 booster shots.
During a segment alongside MSNBC Senior Medical Contributor Dr. Zeke Emanuel, the MSNBC host told a story about her children telling her that they didn’t want to take any more COVID vaccines.
“I listen to that doctor and you hear how tough it is inside hospitals at the moment and the fears of new variants mixed with flu that is coming on. And you would think that the country would respond by saying, okay, we will make sure we are all up to date on all of our vaccines,” Kay said to Emanuel.
“But I had a strange conversation with my 22-year-old and my 16-year-old last night, and I said, okay, I booked you in for COVID updates. You are both back for the holidays. You’re going to get your boosters. And both of them said, no, we don’t want to. We’ve had enough vaccines and we don’t think we need them,” Kay added.

“I was sort of shocked and appalled but is this the kind of response you’re seeing from young people at the moment, that they just, they think this is over and they don’t need any more vaccines?” Kay asked.
Emanuel proceeded to explain that COVID-19 vaccines do not prevent individuals from catching or spreading the virus. “We keep thinking vaccines are going to prevent getting COVID. They don’t prevent getting COVID,” he admitted.
The former WH Advisor for Health Policy then went on to falsely claim that masks “prevent” transmission of COVID-19.
“There are only two things that can prevent transmission of the COVID virus. One is a good mask, an N95 mask, and wearing it especially in crowded situations on airplanes and transportation, and the other is better indoor ventilation,” he claimed.
“Putting every emphasis on vaccines is not going to solve this problem,” he conceded.
A recent article by the New Yorker claimed that Americans’ refusal to wear COVID masks is “deeply embedded in white supremacy,” and added that we should be forced to wear masks “forever.”
