Today a United States district court ordered a stay of Steve Bannon’s prison sentence after the Republican strategist and talk show host was sentenced to 120 days for refusing to comply with the January 6 committee’s subpoena.

The order was signed today by District Judge Carl Nichols, reported The Post Millennial, whose written order was published this afternoon.

It read, in part, “the Court finds that the Defendant, Stephen K. Bannon, (a) is not likely to flee or pose a danger to the safety fo any other person or the community if released and (b) that his appeal is not taken for the purpose of delay but rather raises substantial question of law that is likely to result in a reversal or an order for a new trial.”

“Accordingly,” Nichols explained, “it is ORDERED that the sentence in this case shall be STAYED pending Stephen K. Bannon’s appeal of his conviction.”

Bannon was sentenced to 120 days in prison for refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the January 6 committee.

Previously, when sentencing Bannon, Valiant News reported that Judge Carl Nichols sided with prosecution, and appeared to admonish Bannon for daring to denigrate the work of the January 6 committee during sentencing, declaring that Bannon showed “no remorse” for refusing to comply and “attacked the select committee at every turn,” per to The Daily Mail.

Federal prosecutors asked for at least six months of prison time, and potentially explaining the sentencing discrepancy, the Nichols noted that Bannon appeared to be following his legal advice.

“Bannon did not completely ignore the subpoena or fail to engage with the committee at all,” Nichols acceded. Still, he claimed that “others must be deterred from committing similar crime,” and thus justified the original prison stint for the 68-year-old.

Despite being cast out of the Trump administration early on due to reported disagreements with 45th President Donald Trump’s family, Bannon has remained a popular voice within the Republican Party, especially on his Real America’s Voice radio and TV programs.
