Gay romantic comedy film “Bros” has significantly underperformed at the box office, despite the corporate media praising it as a masterpiece of progressive filmmaking.
In spite of Hollywood celebrities such as Chris Evans, Seth Rogen, and Mariah Carey begging their fanbases to see the film, it made back $4.8 million of its estimated $60 million production and marketing budget, or “40 percent less than the low end of prerelease analyst expectations.”
In response, the New York Times and gay comedian and actor Billy Eichner have suggested that the film failed due to “homophobia” rather than than an uninteresting premise.
“There is no easy way to say it: When the reviews are this sensational, the marketing support is this substantive and the theatrical footprint is this wide — and ticket sales are nonetheless this low — it suggests outright marketplace rejection,” the Times wrote on Monday.
“What went wrong in this case? In going after the widest audience possible, “Bros” may have fallen into a marketplace nether world — too straight for gay audiences, and too gay for straight ones, some analysts posited,” the Times mused. “Several longtime film distribution executives noted that Eichner can be polarizing as a comedic personality and his star power, at least on movie theater marquees, is minimal. And, of course, homophobia cannot be ruled out.”
“Bros” writer and actor Billy Eichner took to Twitter the same day to voice displeasure with “straight people, especially in certain parts of the country” for not seeing the film.
“That’s just the world we live in, unfortunately. Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore etc, straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros,” Eichner said. “And that’s disappointing but it is what it is.”
“Everyone who ISN’T a homophobic weirdo should go see BROS tonight!” Eichner seethed. “You will have a blast! And it *is* special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen, esp for queer folks who don’t get this opportunity often. I love this movie so much. GO BROS!!”

In reality, it appears “Bros” failed to generate interest in among more demographics than just heterosexuals “in certain parts of the country.”
Gay men took to social media to voice their displeasure with certain woke aspects of the plot, such as the myth that the success of the gay rights movement can be attributed to “trans women of color.”
I am so tired of reading the repeatedly disproven myth that "transwomen of color" were responsible for gay rights. To see it repeated in a major Hollywood film, written by a gay man and starring several gay men, is beyond insulting. #BrosMovie

It's not an historical fact @veearrell.
MPJ publicly acknowledged that he wasn't there when the Stonewall riot started, and that 'first brick' myth can be easily disproved. pic.twitter.com/DHj8p0hKUA
