Stacey Abrams: Want Gas, Food to Cost Less? Abortion Your Children

“Let’s be clear. Having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas.”

Stacey Abrams has claimed that people are only concerned about rising food and gas prices if they have children, suggesting that abortion is a solution to the current economic crisis.

Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Abrams, who is pro-abortion, was asked by contributor Mike Barnicle how she would tackle the “liveability issues” that Georgians face as governor, such as the rising cost of gas and food, as abortion “nowhere reaches the levels of interests of voters” in those more pressing issues.

“Let’s be clear. Having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas,” Abrams argued. “It’s why you’re concerned about how much food costs. For women, this is not a reductive issue. You can’t divorce being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child.”

She claimed that women don’t have the “luxury” of separating abortion from other “economic” issues. “Let’s not pretend that women, half the population, especially those of child-bearing age, they understand that having the child is absolutely an economic issue,” she continued.

“It is only politicians who see it as simply another cultural conversation. It is a real, biological, and economic imperative conversation that we women need to have,” Abrams concluded.

Fellow MSNBC host Joy Ann Reid applauded Abrams in a tweet.

“There’s this thing happening in the MSM where women are being told not to care that much about the loss of our bodily autonomy, as if that’s not also a fundamental economic issue,” she said.

“Who do you think will bear the cost of food, rent, childcare, etc. for all those unwanted kids? Women.”

Unsurprisingly, conservative commentators were less polite when responding to her comments, with Fox News reporter Timothy Nerozzi flippantly tweeting, “killing my baby to save on gas money,” and Virginia delegate Nick Freitas noting that “under Democratic leadership, you can’t afford children, but don’t worry, they will force your neighbor to pay for your abortion!”

Abrams previously ran for governor in 2018, losing to Republican Brian Kemp.

However, Abrams and other Democrats have repeatedly challenged the results of the election, including current White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
