Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene politely informed Vice President Kamala Harris that, contrary to her claims, hurricanes are not and cannot be racist, and thus government relief should assist all who were impacted by Hurricane Ian regardless of skin color.
Last weekend Harris suggested that Hurricane Ian was racist and targeting “people of color” worse than everyone else, prompting the Vice President to announce that federal disaster relief would be dished out “based on equity.”
“It is our lowest income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions and impacted by issues that are not of their own making,” Harris said.

“And so we have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity, understanding not everyone starts out at the same place,” said Harris.
“And if we want people to be in an equal palace, sometimes we have to take into account those disparities and do that work,” she added.
The comments drew widespread criticism who were shocked to hear the Vice President suggest that people would not receive disaster relief because of the color of their skin.
Among those shocked in the Republican Party was Greene, who later informed the Vice President that Hurricanes are not racist and government assistance should not have anything to do with people’s skin color.

“Hurricanes do not target people based on the color of their skin. Hurricanes do not discriminate,” Rep. Greene said in a tweet directed at Harris. “And neither should the federal government giving aid to people suffering from the devastation of Hurricane Ian.”
Greene pointed out that Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, the husband of Harris, is white, and asked Harris if she believes her husband’s life is worth less because of his skin color.
“Is your husband’s life worth less [because] he’s white?” Greene added.
