Joe Biden’s level of support among Hispanics is now lower than his support among whites according to new polling from Quinnipiac University that was conducted after First Lady Dr. Jill Biden claimed that Latinos are “as unique as breakfast tacos” at a recent “LatinX” event.
The polling reveals that 29% of white people support Joe Biden, compared to 63% of whites who disapprove. The 79-year-old president is supported by 61% of blacks, compared to 28% who disapprove.
Hispanics, generally considered a heavily Democratic voting bloc, come in with only 19% of support for Biden. 70% of Hispanics disapprove of his performance as president.
The poll then asked the same respondents whether they approve or disapprove “somewhat” or strongly”. 49% of Hispanics strongly disapprove of Biden’s performance, compared to only 8% of Hispanics who strongly approve of his performance.

Perhaps indicating a wider frustration with establishment politics, respondents across all but one demographic also disapprove of congressional Republicans.
Republicans in Congress have only a 23% approval rating, and it is highest – 51% – among registered Republicans. 25% of Hispanics approve of Republicans’ performance, compared to 26% of whites.
Overall, the poll finds Joe Biden’s approval rating to be a dismal 31%. It is highest among Democrats, 71% of whom still approve of Biden’s performance, and lowest among Republicans. Only 2% of Republican voters approve of Biden’s performance.
Regardless of politics, only 23% of men approve of Biden’s performance, compared to 39% of women.
It’s particularly noteworthy that Biden’s collapse in support among Hispanics, as reflected in the poll, came after First Lady Dr. Jill Biden compared Latinos to “tacos” while speaking at something called a “LatinX” event earlier this month.

Jill Biden, who is a doctor of education, attempted to celebrate the “diversity of this [Hispanic] community” and began by mispronouncing “bodegas” and ultimately telling the Hispanic crowd that Latinos are “as unique as breakfast tacos here in San Antonio.”
She apologized via a statement from her staff the next day, July 12, which claimed that she only meant to venerate Hispanics and not offend them, but the damage may have been done.
The Quinnipiac polling was conducted from July 14 to July 18.
