An official training video for the U.S. Navy instructs sailors to use the “right” pronouns and avoid “misgendering” colleagues to create a “safe space” that is inclusive to all aboard the nation’s navy.
The video, available on a Defense Department affiliated website, features two Navy engineers instructing their colleagues on pronouns, creating a “safe space,” and the fight against misgendering people.
Correct pronoun use is an example of “inclusive language,” and including pronouns in the signature area of an email is a way to “show that we’re allies.” Navy sailors should also state their pronouns when introducing themselves, the diverse enlisted people explain.
“What would I do if I want to know someone’s gender identity or pronoun,” one expert asked the other. “Do not pressure anybody into giving you their pronouns,” said the expert. “Some people may be going through the process of discovery and they are not ready yet,” she explained. She then discussed her experiences talking about pronouns at a “cookout.”
Breitbart News reports that the training video is “apparently part of the Naval Sea Systems Command Inclusion & Engagement Council’s Diversity Team,” and that is the team apparently responsible for the video as part of a larger series called “NAVSpEAks.”
That series apparently, in turn, highlights “diverse voices and perspectives” in five-minute clips meant to train sailors.
The training video is the latest in a series of high profile moves by the U.S. Armed Forces to sway the LGBT community, Breitbart reports.
So far, the U.S. Marines, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Space Force have all posted messages to social media that celebrate June as LGBT pride month.
Maj. Gen. Leah Lauderback spoke on how the LIT is working to change policy, change minds, and create opportunities for LGBTQ+ members of the military during an interview with @airandspace. #PrideMonth2022https://t.co/VGZrEB05WA

Branches of the military have entered the political arena under the Biden administration, with multiple high ranking officials infamously using their official Twitter accounts to confront Tucker Carlson after the Fox News host highlighted the Air Force’s adoption of something called “maternity flight suits” that ostensibly allow pregnant women to continue operating fighter jets until delivery.
