The plaintiff and defendant in the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial have both released statements following Wednesday’s jury verdict finding actress and feminist activist Heard liable for over $10 million in damages.
In a statement released on Twitter, Heard said “the disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” and cried “I’m even more disappointed in what this verdict means for other women.”
Heard invoked other feminist platitudes in the statement, which received an overwhelming ratio of over twice as many quote tweets as likes.

Conversely, Johnny Depp released a statement noting, “And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”
“My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing and the inevitable, worldwide spectacle into my life, was only made after considerable thought,” the statement continued.”
“From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome,” Depp continued. “Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that.”
Depp’s post quickly dwarfed Heard’s in engagement, accruing over 1 million likes on Instagram in a matter of minutes.

As Valiant News reported on Wednesday, the jury found in favor of Depp on all 7 claims against Heard, including that she acted with “actual malice” in her defamation against Depp. This means Heard knew she was spreading false lies about Depp when she made them.
The jury awarded a total of $15 million to Depp. Lawyers say Depp will receive around $8.3 million, due to the statutory cap on some of Depp’s claims, and the money awarded Heard.
