Former President Donald Trump told Fox Business this week that he “wouldn’t be concerned” if former Vice president Mike Pence seeks the presidency in 2024, citing Pence’s abysmal poll numbers in the Republican Party.
“I mean, I wouldn’t be concerned with that,” Trump told Fox Business’ Stuart Varney after being asked about Pence potentially entering the primary. “People are very disappointed in Mike, and if he ran, I don’t think that would be a problem.”
“Well, I think, if you look at the polls, I’m leading by a tremendous amount,” Trump noted. “I had a 98 percent approval rating in the Republican Party.”
“You take a look at the results, I mean, every one of these states, every one of these swing states and beyond, but everyone in these swing states is proven,” Trump said, rehashing his beliefs that there was voter fraud in the 2020 election. “The evidence is so massive. The problem is the press, including Fox, doesn’t want to talk about it”
Trump claimed Republican voters are still “very upset” about what happened in the 2020 election: “They are very upset about it. They’re very angry with what happened in the election.”
The 45th president stated in March that “I don’t think the people would accept it” in reference to a Pence presidential run in 2024.
“Mike and I had a great relationship except for the very important factor that took place at the end,” said Trump.
“We had a very good relationship,” he added, but “I haven’t spoken to him in a long time.”
This runs contrary to claims made by Pence, who says that he continues to enjoy a close relationship with his former boss.
“To be honest with you, all of my focus is on 2022,” Pence recently told the Associated Press. He added that “in 2023” he and his staffers would “look around and we’ll go where we’re called.”
