Footage from Port Arthur, Texas, shows a man stealing a lawnmower, but not before mowing the owner’s front and back lawn.
In security footage released by Port Arthur Police Department, Marcus Hubbard, is allegedly seen entering the property in southeast Texas. Hubbard, who has been charged with burglary, walks past the porch and into the garage last month, where he pulls out a bicycle, and later a lawnmower, “without owners’ consent.”
Instead of running off with the lawnmower and bicycle, Hubbard then proceeds to take a gas can, and fill up the tank of the lawnmower.
Hubbard then revs the lawnmower up, and proceeds to mow both the front and back lawn of the house that he had allegedly broken into.
After realising that a strange man was mowing his lawn, the owner of the property called the police. “Upon Officers arrival Hubbard is seen running from the area while dragging the lawnmower with him,” Port Arthur PD said in a statement.
“He abandons the lawnmower in an alley and evades apprehension,” Port Arthur PD confirmed. Hubbard is still at large, and has an outstanding warrant for “Burglary of a Building.”
Commenters on social media have suggested that Hubbard may have not been trying to engage in criminal behaviour, but instead argued that he may have wanted to instead mow the lawn as a “surprise” for the residents. “Is he OCD and could not stand the sight of the lawn?” one asked.
“Is he some sort of guardian yard angel? I wish I would wake up and find he has done my hedges.”
Others hypothesised that Hubbard may have a mental illness, or that it was only an April Fool’s Day prank, while some argued that he was only arrested because the police were racist.
“People are sensitive now a day [sic] for mowing yard [sic] classify as suspicious activity,” a commenter said. “If he was white that would be a different narrative of the story.”
