Former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard compared the Biden administration’s new “Disinformation Governance Board,” which will be run out of the Department of Homeland Security, and aims to cut down on people spreading ideas the administration does not condone.
Gabbard, who gained national prominence for her fiery debate performance, made the remarks during an appearance on Fox News last night.
“This is the kind of thing that you see in dictatorships, this Ministry of Truth, this Department of Propaganda that the Biden administration has just stood up,” said Gabbard. “The reason why you see this in dictatorships is because they’re afraid of us, they’re afraid of the people, they’re afraid that we might actually think for ourselves.”
Gabbard said that the Biden administration will use “propaganda” and “intimidation” to bully the public into repeating its talking points.
First, “they will use taxpayer dollars to work through the mainstream media and flood the airwaves with whatever their propaganda narrative is that they’re pushing at any given time,” said Gabbard. Second, “They will silent dissenting voices through intimidation.”
Still, the Hawaiian politician explained, “This isn’t something new, this is something they’ve already been doing that’s happening right now, the only difference is they’re formalizing it, making it official, which if there’s a silver lining in this it is [that] they’re revealing exactly who they are.”
Still, Gabbard suggested that all the blame does not land at Joe Biden’s feet.
“I don’t believe that Joe Biden came up with this Department of Propaganda,” said Gabbard, calling Biden the “front-man” for a “permanent Washington establishment” that is “behind the curtain, pulling the strings.”
“There are other people in this permanent Washington establishment who are calling the shots,” Gabbard explained, “it’s important for us as the American people to see very clearly what’s happening.”
Hannity later turned the discussion to Gabbard’s political prospects for 2024. She left the U.S. House to run for President in 2020, and Hannity asked if she would consider running for president as an independent candidate in 2024, or if she would become a Republican.
“Neither of those things are things that I’m giving any thought to,” said Gabbard, saying she is instead focused on helping Americans understand “the crisis of this moment” and “how critical it is, whether we’re a Democrat, an independent, or a Republican, that we stand together and fight for our freedom.”
Biden’s “Disinformation Governance Board” was unveiled Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas earlier this week.
Mayorkas claimed the DHS fact checking outfit was created days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk bought Twitter because the administration seeks “to combat online disinformation.”
